Brighouse Sixth Form College is a truly comprehensive college where every student is challenged, and supported, to aim high.  Our academic achievement continues to exceed the national average and our students benefit from being part of our close-knit community.  Our Student Experience programme goes beyond your academic subject choices and provides a comprehensive package giving you the opportunity to be creative and original, meet new people, learn new skills useful for employment or university, build confidence, explore academic knowledge beyond specifications and supports you in deciding on your careers or higher education path.  Our Small Book of Success outlines our offer.

At Brighouse Sixth Form College you can access a wide range of study support facilities including quite study areas, computer workrooms, printing, photocopying, IT support, careers support.

University & Careers

We want all our students to achieve their full potential after leaving Brighouse Sixth Form College.  To support you individually, we provide comprehensive guidance on career options and university applications.  We arrange a programme of support, including talks from different universities, advice on completing UCAS applications, visits to universities and mock interviews for Oxbridge and Cambridge applicants.  We also have a comprehensive Higher Education, Oxbridge and Cambridge University programme for the most able.

Sixth Form Student Leadership

We actively encourage our students to get involved in all areas of student life and value their involvement in the running and organisation of many events.  The Student Committee is led by two Seniors Students and many other Student Leaders who are members of focused committees. The committees change according to the needs of the students.  Examples of committees are Equality & Diversity, Student Well-being, Promotions & Marketing, Sports and Events and Charities.

The aims of the committees are:

  • To communicate any key issues in Sixth Form with the student body and the staff and promote positive changes within the college.
  • Organise and lead events for the student body such as sports events, competitions, fun events and charity days.
  • Organise the Sixth Form prom.
  • Represent the Sixth Form at formal events such as Open Evenings.
  • Act as a role model to other students and support the transition of Year 12.
Health and Emotional Wellbeing

We care about the mental health and wellbeing of all our students. As part of our support package, we have a confidential counselling service that all students can access. Our counsellor is available throughout the week, offering onsite discrete, regular counselling and one off drop in sessions. In addition, the safety and wellbeing of our students is a top priority and our dedicated safeguarding team is available to offer advice and support. If you are worried about yourself or someone you know in college, please speak to a member of staff or the Sixth Form Safeguarding Lead.

Enrichment & Extended Learning

Enrichment and/or Extended Learning at Brighouse Sixth Form College makes you stand out. It shows universities and employers different types of skills, demonstrates commitment to learning, as well as providing more experience, interests and improves employability in the future. It’s also a really good way of trying new things, meeting new people and having lots of fun! Our list of enrichment activities can be viewed here.

Tutor Team & Student Support

As a Brighouse Sixth Form student you will be placed into a Tutor Group according to your year of study. Our dedicated team of Tutors will deliver a programme of study skills, health advice, university, careers and next steps guidance.

The Learning Support Team offers support to any student who might need extra help. Personalised support is available for students with Education, Health and Care Plans, disabled students and those with physical health conditions and other learning needs.
