16-19 Bursary Fund

You could get a bursary to help with education-related costs if you are 16 to 19 and study with us at Brighouse Sixth Form College.  A bursary is money that you, or your education or training provider, can use to pay for things like:

  • Clothing, books and other equipment for your course
  • Transport and lunch on days you study or train

There are 2 types of 16-19 bursary:

Vulnerable Groups Bursary

Young people in the defined vulnerable groups are eligible for a bursary of up to £1,200 a year, which equates to approximately £30 per week during term time.

The defined vulnerable groups are students who are:

  • In care
  • Care leavers
  • Receiving Income Support or Universal Credit (UC) because they are financially supporting themselves or financially supporting themselves and someone who is dependent on them and living with them such as a child or partner
  • Receiving Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments in their own right as well as Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit in their own right
Discretionary Bursary

This bursary fund is used to assist students who may benefit from financial assistance to complete their course.  Assistance from this fund may be granted subject to a detailed application as to why such assistance is necessary in respect of the following:

  • Contribution towards the cost of field trips and educational visits
  • Reimbursement for books and equipment
  • Costs of re-sit examination fees, where applicable
  • Assistance towards travel costs to HE interviews
  • Transportation costs
  • Meals during the day
