Headteacher’s Welcome

At Brighouse High Sixth Form College we strive to combine the best of both worlds; to uphold the traditional supportive values of a close community and develop the forward looking and more independent approach of college life. We are a truly comprehensive college where every student is challenged to aim high. Whatever you are seeking in education for the next stage of your life, our sixth form college will be big in its offer yet small enough to feel like a home.

Our college has an excellent reputation and track record of supporting all students to achieve their goals. Whatever your aspirations are we will challenge and support you. Whether you are planning to make an application to Oxbridge, or to a Russell Group university, or planning to go on to employment or training we provide high quality advice and guidance to support you in taking those important next steps. At the heart of all we do is a real commitment to our students and we believe experience and preparation for the world beyond college is just as important as the qualifications secured.

If you are keen to work hard, make a positive contribution both to the college and our community, enjoy your learning and working as part of a team of students and staff to achieve excellence you will do well at Brighouse Sixth Form College.

Head of Sixth Form’s Welcome

Brighouse Sixth Form College is a place you where you will be encouraged and supported to achieve your academic potential, and also a place where you can establish really positive relationships with new friends and teachers.

Our visitors frequently comment on the welcoming atmosphere and strength of togetherness between the students and staff and also the local community. As a college who focuses on the personal approach, we can invest time into getting to know you very well and will value you as an individual. We are large enough for you to experience a full college life, but small enough to know you as an individual.

We are a split site facility so the environment is a specialised resource for 16-19 year olds. We are not a school; we are not a college, but in fact the ‘best of both’. We have a beautiful building in the centre of Brighouse with many transport links making us easily accessible for students living in Calderdale, Kirklees and Bradford.

The transition from Year 11 to Year 12 marks the beginning of an exciting journey and I would be delighted if you are considering making that journey with us. You have many decisions to make regarding your choice of A levels/BTEC qualifications and we can support and guide throughout the application process.

We are about so much more than just qualifications, important as they are. From the moment our new Year 12 students join us they are challenged to aspire and achieve within a warm, caring and supportive environment. We are committed to ensuring that the opportunities within and beyond the traditional curriculum are rich and diverse including many other extended learning opportunities. An amazing place to learn

“I joined from another school and was nervous about what the environment and teaching was going to be like. However, I soon could tell that Brighouse was the best place for me; it felt like home. One of the main appeals about Brighouse for me was the staff I met on Open evening they were all welcoming and happy, they helped me make the final decision to apply. The teacher, staff and especially Mrs Lee have gone above and beyond to help me in getting the grades I need and helping guide me through the university process. You won’t regret your decision to join Brighouse!”

A strong sense of togetherness

“The best thing about Brighouse is the sense of togetherness. A Sixth Form that is small in the community, but big at heart. The help that you receive from teachers is second to none. It was very easy to settle in at Brighouse Sixth Form with a familiar environment, but also those who came from other High Schools settled in very quickly due to the support and friendliness of students and staff at Sixth Form. At Brighouse you are not just a number but a valued individual.”

A sense of challenge and aspiration

“Our son left this summer with A*AA and we wanted to say thank you so much for all your hard work, support and encouragement which you have given to him in the last 2 years. From the moment I emailed you on GCSE results day, your team have been the tremendously helpful and 100% supportive to him. You only wanted him to do his best and realise his potential, which I can confidently say he has! I have nothing but praise for Brighouse Sixth Form, the support we all have received is outstanding. I certainly have no hesitation to recommending Brighouse.”

A truly comprehensive college

“I have really enjoyed my time at Brighouse Sixth Form College. I particularly like the fact that there are different pathways to choose from to suit your individual needs. I have studied a mixed pathway of vocational BTEC and A level courses which I have really enjoyed. I feel that my choices have really opened doors for my next steps at university”
