Dear Students,

I would like to introduce myself as School Librarian and inform you about the Literacy and Media Hub here at Brighouse High School. Your Year 7 child will have received induction lesson as part of the Library. The Library is open for students to use during break, lunch and after school for quiet reading or completing homework.  All students are encouraged to borrow books from the Library section. They may borrow two books at a time (one fiction and one non-fiction) for a period of two weeks. The date that the book is due back is always stamped in the front so it can be easily checked. They will also get emailed reminders for overdue books. If your child has not finished reading the book in this time they can bring the book in for renewal and get it stamped for another two weeks.

I hope that you will support us in ensuring students look after their library books and take responsibility for returning them on time. We have a number Reading Challenges for Year 7 that aims to encourage reading for pleasure as well as challenge students to broaden their reading habits. Students have a reading log in their planner to record the process. There are extra reward points for those who also write reviews. There is plenty of evidence to link reading for pleasure with progress and success in both education and later life, and I trust that you will support this and encourage reading time in the home. Just fifteen minutes a day can make a real difference.

Thank you for your support.
