Dear Parent or Guardian,

You may have heard that voluntary testing for those without coronavirus symptoms is to be offered to students on their return to school using ‘lateral flow devices’ which give a result within thirty minutes. We have been testing our staff in school and our vulnerable and key-worker pupils who have been accessing school during the partial closure and who have given consent. The intention is to offer three tests to each student, the first of which may be offered in the week before March 8th. Remember that the testing is voluntary.

Please complete the following form if you wish to give consent for your child to be tested.

How the tests work

Those taking the test will be supervised by staff but they are expected to administer the tests themselves. The lateral flow tests are quick to undertake, using a swab of the nose. The school will inform the pupil of a positive test result. Where participants are under 16, parents or legal guardians will also be informed. Parents will not be informed if the test result is negative.

What happens if the test is positive?

The student will have to immediately begin a period of isolation for ten days, as will the household and anyone who has been in close contact with the student in the previous 48 hours.

What if students have been in close contact with someone in school who tests positive?

The student will be notified that they are a close contact by the school and will have to self-isolate for ten days from the day following the last contact.

What if my child develops symptoms?

This testing programme at school is for people with no symptoms. If your child develops symptoms at any time (including a high temperature; a new, continuous cough; or a loss or change to their sense of smell or taste) they must immediately self-isolate, and book a test by calling 119 or visiting https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.

We will support our staff and pupils throughout, but please contact us if you have any questions. You can contact the office by telephone on 01484 710408.

Yours faithfully,

Richard Horsfield
Headteacher
