Curriculum

Our core purpose at KS3 is to deliver an engaging and challenging curriculum through outstanding teaching and learning. We aim to make our pupils “GCSE Ready” by the end of Year 9 and to make them confident and responsible members of the school and wider community.

Curriculum

On arrival at the school pupils are placed in mixed ability form groups and initially are taught in these groups for most subjects Setting is gradually introduced in core subjects so that they can be taught in ability groups which match their strengths & interests. There is also a foundation timetable for Level 3 students in Year 7 to support their learning. Extra curriculum time is allocated to English in Year 8 and 9 and Maths in Year 7 and 9 in order to aid progress and meet challenging target grades.

Pupils experience a broad range of subjects at KS3. At the end of Year 8 pupils make some ‘pre-options choices’ for Year 9, so that they can begin to specialise in the creative arts and technology subjects they enjoy, whilst still experiencing a broad and balanced curriculum. Please see below for further details of the Year 8 pre-options choices.
